The Gatinais Français Regional Nature Park

The Gâtinais Français Regional Nature Park covers an area of 75,640 hectares and 69 municipalities (36 in Essonne and 33 in Seine-et-Marne). Today, it is at the heart of concerns for the preservation of the environment and the natural and cultural heritage.

The Park is made up of municipalities that create a coherent, preserved and welcoming whole. It is based on a historical entity, dating from the period when the greater Gâtinais was divided between the Gâtinais Orléans, further south, and the French Gâtinais, within the boundaries of the former Kingdom of France. It is from this historical stage that the Park today takes its name.

Its originality lies in its contrasting landscapes: woods and forests cover more than a third of the territory and intermingle with agricultural land, sand and sandstone make up the subsoil and the latter sometimes makes the horizon chaotic when it surfaces. The Park deserves its nickname of "land of a thousand clearings and sandstone"! We must not forget the water that shapes the outlook. Three rivers criss-cross the territory, the Juine, the Essonne and the Ecole and the Seine, borders it to the north-east.

A territory to be discovered without moderation... but with consideration, because the natural environments are fragile, the fauna and flora often include sensitive species that we must respect during our walks, while respecting private property.
